Solnedgang i rosa og blå

solnedgang21solnedgang31

Wonderful pictures! What are the large snowballs with the light behind them??

Hi Mary, nice of you to stop by!
The snowballs are forming a lantern, I used to make these a lot when I was a child, and I think it still is rather common to do so here in Norway. The lantern was made a month ago when we actually had proper snow, and it sat right outside my garden door so I could see it from the couch.

The lantern is quite simple to make, you just stack snowballs in gradually decreasing circles. Use the stub of a regular candel and light it before you put on the last snowballs.

What a beautiful sky! The colors are spectacular.

I’m glad Mary asked about the snowballs because I wondered, but didn’t think to ask. They’re really beautiful. I want to try it some time! What a wonderful custom. I love it!

Thanks for visiting my blog today and leaving your message. :-)

These snowballs lanterns are so ordinary for me that if I had not already gotten the question from some Danes earlier I wouldn’t even have understood what you were asking about…

If we ever get snow again I will most certainly make a little guide for the benefit of all those whom haven’t grown up with this costume :D

I think they’re so beautiful! I want to try making one if we get another good “sticky” snowfall.

Thanks for coming by my site this morning. I replied to your comment there that people should come see your beautiful blog and the snow lantern.

Beautiful skies!
It seems the harshest weather leaves us with the prettiest reminders.
